Folks, it is now the year 2001, and we think it is senseless for us to spend money and trees mailing out dozens of identical pieces of paper and photographs to publicize our events, and to drive around to put up flyers in surrounding towns. So we would like to do it all on-line, which will be faster, more accurate, easier, and cheaper.

FOR MEDIA PEOPLE
This page is designed to make it easy for journalists and other media people to get the photos, bio and press releases they need for upcoming SGS events. We do not always get enough publicity photos from the artists to send around to all the publications, and we sometimes get a few different shots, or color pictures, and aren't sure who to send which ones. This way everyone who wants them can have whatever pics we have.We normally scan to TIFF files at 200-240 dpi, and the 8x10 pics we scan at 75% or 100% of original size, uncropped. We then make the Mac & PC TIFF's and a highest quality jpeg available (the latter is perfect for newspaper use, Mac or PC) Be careful that your browser will let you download a jpeg and not just display it. Otherwise you may have to copy it or do a "Save As" while clicking on the picture. We also include a text file of the press release, so you don't have to fight with the added carriage returns that get added in when we e-mail you the release. This way you do not have to re-type anything, and there will not be errors in doing so. We also include for download a pdf file of the press release, in case you want a piece of paper on your desk that does not look like an e-mail message. (If you don't know what this means, get Adobe Acrobat Reader and learn to use it. It's free and it works.)

FOR MEMBER AND FANS WHO WANT TO HELP WITH PUBLICITY
We also believe it a a colossal waste of time and resources to put flyers up to advertise our events. We would love it if you folks out there who have either a 600 dpi laser printer or a nice photo inkjet printer (Canon or Epson or HP work great) could download and print the pdf files (Adobe Acrobat) on your own printer, photocopy them and put them up at your job and your local grocery store or wherever you go. We use the standard, letter size paper (because we also believe that there is limited poster space and that the 11x17 posters everyone makes now are a nuisance), and we usually use the Exact Index Buff (gold color) cardstock paper we get at Office Max. Any kind of paper will do, but if you have a choice, it's nice if we can all use the same color paper. This would be a great help to us, and it would be a way for some of you to do a little bit to help the cause, especially if you live in a town we don't go to. All you need is some push pins and a roll of tape. Always ask the manager if it's OK to put up a flyer.
