Workshop/Master Class:

About Michael Johnson: Michael Johnson has had more musical lives than you can count, and is amazingly little-known, considering the length and breadth of his career. He studied classical guitar in Barcelona, Spain in 1966, and lived in a garage in Los Angeles with Steve Martin in 1967. In 1968 he was in the Chad Mitchell Trio with John Denver for a year. He acted in off-Broadway musicals, and toured for a year with "Jaques Brel in Paris." Guitar fans first heard him playing amazing guitar duets on early Leo Kottke records in the early 70's. He then released 3 brilliant acoustic folk records in the 70's that showed that he is a better singer than guitarist. He was a guitar professor for a while, then got signed by EMI records and had several smash its, including 80's #1 pop hit (Bluer than Blue). He moved to Nashville, signed with RCA and had 4 more large hits. including two #1 country hits, and a #1 R&B hit. Michael has been a musical guest on the Tonight Show, Nashville Now, American Music Shop, Austin City Limits and Entertainment tonight. He has been a regular colmnist for Performing Songwriter Magazine and done a lot of workshops and seminars on songwriting and the music business. He recently toured with Vince Gill, Alison Krauss, George Carlin, Judy Collins, among others. Now he has returned to his coffeehouse roots, and is playing solo shows with just his nylon-string guitar, though he recently has been touring and released a duet with Alison Krauss on his 14th album. Mark your calendar and brace yourself for one of the great singer/guitarists of our age, who sings and plays as well as anyone you've ever heard, who rocks hard, and is also intelligent, witty, sensitive, warm, humble and all the things you might want in a performer, and might not expect in such an illustrious one. Michael has never before played in the Seacoast area. There will be a workshop from 3-5pm (same day- $20) where you can learn from Michael about guitars, songwriting, being a musician, and about the music business.
